The original group company history

The creation of the business activities of Honicel is a logical consequence of the original building construction and building materials production & trade. In addition to production and trade (B2B) a continuous improvement process of production machines and production technology was a matter of course. "Stagnation means decline!"

Since its inception in the year 1913, the company management and its successive successors have always proved to be very successful pioneers & developers. Always being focused on developing new products, designing new production technology and - machines and creating new markets. That’s the “secret” behind the success of our group of companies. That is why we have such a very long history and we are still as young and dynamic as in the early days as to pioneer & to develop is in our DNA.

The introduction of the honeycomb structure in industry:

Right after the 2nd World War a period of reconstruction began in Western Europe. Due to the extreme shortage and urgent needs of building and construction materials, we were in search for alternative solutions. At that time we came across the hexagonal honeycomb structure. In principle the honeycomb structure was developed during the 2nd World War for the aviation (aircraft) industry. The honeycomb shape has unique characteristics. It is incredibly strong No other shape can offer this strength by making use of this minimum amount of raw materials. Nature is working very efficient, that’s why the bee’s in the beehive use the hexagonal shape. Likewise all natural cell structures, when you cross cut the cell, you will find the hexagonal / honeycomb shape. So we can learn from nature how to design an extremely strong light-weight structure, by making use of the minimum of material substance.
