Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP-

Introduction of the Honicel Ceramic Panel

The newly developed Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP- is a new type of very thin large size Ceramic slab which is bonded to a with glass fibre laminated aluminium Honicel- honeycomb core Panel -HP-.
For the advantages and the unique properties of the ultra-lightweight, durable, “all circumstances proof”, cost efficient characteristics of the with glass fibre laminated aluminium Honicel-honeycomb core Panel -HP- we refer to the item HP here before.

The creation of the Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP-

Considering the wish and requirements in the market, it was the goal of Honicel to create an economic and extremely strong, but lightweight panel with a thin as possible durable Ceramic finishing, to replace e.g. the big size, heavy and fragile 6-; 9- and 12 mm thick Ceramic slabs. The leading Italian Ceramic Specialist came with the alternative, a high quality 3 mm. thin Ceramic slab. The big sized -e.g. 1220 x 2400 mm. or 1220 x 2800 mm- ultra-thin Ceramic slab of 3 mm. final thickness, is formed under the high pressure process of over 10.000 tons. Though the cost efficient and lightweight 3 mm. thin Ceramic slab has a very high material density and compression strength, but negative side is that its breaking strength is low and extremely fragile and easy to crack.

By bonding the 3 mm. thin Ceramic slab on top of the 9 mm. Honicel-honeycomb Panel, by means of a high temperature- and high pressure bonding process, the HCP is created. So to say, the ultra-thin Ceramic slab is therefore, inseparable linked to the HP. The application on top of the HP greatly improves the physical properties of the economic, but fragile 3 mm. thin Ceramic slabs, significantly, and greatly improves their impact- and bending resistance. The breaking strength of the HCP composite panel is incredibly increased to be over 1200 N ! As the coefficient of expansion of the Ceramic slab and the high-performance Glass Fibre skins of the HP are roughly speaking the same, disturbing deformation and or deflection / bending / warping is prevented. So this makes it possible to have e.g. extremely large, lightweight, absolutely flat sliding walls !

The Honicel Ceramic Panel System
makes it possible to make large size light-weight sliding-door respectively sliding-walls, that remain absolutely flat and are very light to slide.
The photo below shows a sliding-door made out of 4 joined HCP’s !
This sliding door has the dimension:
(4 x 1200 mm. wide) 4800 x 2800 mm. ! Only at the backside of the door, at the position of the joins there is an aluminium style that is linked to the runner in the rail at the ceiling. Note: notice the marble look décor continues uninterrupted on the whole sliding door / wall.

Main Technical Properties and Characteristics of HCP

1) Light weight and high bending strength:
the mass of a 12 mm. thick HCP (3 mm. thin Ceramic slab + 9 mm. thin aluminium Honicel-honeycomb sandwich Panel) has a weight of ± 9 kg/m2, which is only 1/3 of a 12 mm. thick Ceramic slab, but its bending strength is 3 times more than that of thick Ceramic slabs.

2) Impact resistance, convenient processing, transportation and installation:
the in total 12 mm. thin HCP can withstand the impact of 450 gram steel ball from 1,5 m. height without damage. Conclusion, the HCP has an excellent impact resistance. As integrated part of the HCP it makes the ultra-thin 3 mm. Ceramic
slab easy and secured to process. Significant reduction of damages during handling, processing, transport and installation till nearly zero.

3) Easy to process to be used in unlimited number of applications:
The HCP is excellent suitable for all kinds of applications and on top of that, it is very easy to process.

4) Low expansion coefficient, moisture-proof and insect proof:
HCP
adopts a high-performance Glass Fibre composite skin structure with an expansion coefficient being nearly the same as the Ceramic slab. This makes the HCP less prone to deformation, bending, cracking and delamination. HCP is so to say, not afraid of water and or a humid environment. It has an excellent moisture- proof, water-proof, insect-proof and rot-proof performance. That makes the HCP a perfect high quality, cost efficient product solution in all kind of situations, applications and environments.

5) Green environmental protection and flame resistance:
HCP
is a "zero formaldehyde" decorative board / panel. It is a non-combustible material and a high-quality green low-carbon environmental protection panel. The Ceramic slab itself is made at extremely high temperature and can absorb heat. It is a non-combustible product and its chemical properties are excellent. It has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, frost resistance, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance. Also the HCP has been tested and showed to have excellent flame retardant characteristics. The testing report shows that the fire rating of HCP meets the conditions of the national building materials standard A2 grade. It is a non-combustible building material and can be used in the finishing, furnishing and decoration of all kinds of industrial-, public-, commercial- and private buildings. Note, all test reports are available.

6) Good sound insulation and temperature insulation effect:
as the honeycomb structure has good thermal- and sound insulation properties, HCP has far more better sound- and thermal insulation performance than a thick Ceramic slab.

Overview of applications of the Honicel aluminium honeycomb Ceramic Panel -HCP-: Application prospects of HCP

Relying on the enhancement of the Honicel-honeycomb technology, the HCP overcomes the fragile shortcomings of ordinary Ceramic slabs. At the same time HCP not only improves the impact resistance and its safety, but also is more convenient for processing, transportation, installation and applications. We have experienced that HCP has unique and very wide application prospects in the e.g. the following fields:

1) Interior walls, ceiling and floor décor, protection and decoration finishing at hotels, industrial-, public- commercial- and private buildings (including hospitals, laboratories, clean-rooms, shops, showrooms, apartments, villas etc.)

2) Kitchen fronts, -backs, kitchen / laboratory worktops, cabinet doors, wardrobe doors, partitions, room doors; restrooms, bathrooms, bedrooms etc.

3) External façade finishing, protection and decoration, at industrial-, public- and private buildings and advertising boards, etc.

Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP- as interior wall decoration system: HCP Dry Wall System

The HCP can be used widely as dry wall panels. The 1200 x 2400 mm. HCP, its total weight is only ± 25 kg ! so really light-weight as well as impact resistant and easy to install. HCP dry wall system is composed of aluminium profile rail system that will be screwed against the construction wall. After mounting the horizontal aluminium rails on the structural wall, and mounting the horizontal rails "up side down" on the back of the HCP, the HCP can be easily hung in the mounted wall profiles. Job done, so simple the installation can be !

As alternative to the aluminium profile wall hanging system, Honicel has also developed a HCP Clip system. This dry hanging Clip system adopts Honicel male and female fastener. HCP is accurately aligned on site, the accurate position of the positioning needle on the HCP is obtained, and the male buckle is fixed with glue riveting. Finally, the male buckle of HCP is placed on the female buckle of the keel to complete the installation.

The advantage of both aforementioned HCP installation systems is that the HCP can be removed and reused at another location / situation. In case of a flat wall structure, another alternative removable attaching system, is to apply Velcro strap on the wall respectively on the HCP. This shows that there are numerous simple but effective mounting systems available, it is just depending what does have your preference in your specific situation.

In case removing of the HCP is not required and in case of a flat (wall and or floor) surface, the HCP can then be glued directly onto this flat surface. The glue can be a so called “dot- glue-principle”, whereby the glue dots are equally spread at the backside of the HCP. Or a thin layer glue will be applied on the full surface of the HCP.

Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP- as exterior wall finishing & decoration system: Façade finishing / exterior HCP Wall Hanging System:

Due to the unique and super physical characteristics of the exterior façade finishing the high-strength and lightweight HCP is also very suitable for exterior wall dry mounting system, and its application prospect is very broad.

The Honicel aluminium honeycomb Panel -HP- and or the Honicel Ceramic Panel -HCP- as “floating floor panel” System

HP / HCP Flooring System:
The HP “floating” floor panel system consists of HP in the dimension: 1215 (length) x 1215 (width) x 30 mm. (thickness) and have an overlap profile around the edges of the HP respectively the HCP. The HCP can be installed directly as the floating- / construction floor or the HCP is installed demountable on top of the HP “floating floor” system specially developed by Honicel.

Also the HCP in the dimension: 1215 x 1215 x 12 mm or in the HCP in the dimension: 1215 x 2415 x 12 mm. is now frequently used as the high quality floor finishing system. This new type of economic large size HCP floor tiles are also frequently used in combination with the HP “floating floor” system underneath. By doing so, it will enable you to disassemble the HCP floor and wall system and move it and re-install it in your new location.
